Besides attracting investments and international water companies to Singapore, PUB has also drawn foreign talents to work in the water industry here. This diversity of talents, viewpoints and cultural sensibilities makes a world of difference to the organisation. Ong May Anne talks to some of our `UN representatives' and finds that they are united - by their love for water.

"It's a rather proud feeling I get when I'm chatting with a friend from half way across the world and he or she says, hey, so Singapore's working on this huge water treatment plant project in the Middle East? It's not so much the specific Singapore company that matters," says Melanie, "but that the company represents Singapore and how we are making waves."

An understanding of how precious water is was instilled in Melanie when she was a young girl. At her primary school, there was a little pond the kids liked to hang around during recess. The pond had a big rock with the inscription 'yin shui si yuan'. This Chinese idiom literally means: when you drink the water, think of the source.

Her school principal mentioned it repeatedly, and today it reminds Melanie that water truly is precious.
