Alternate Sources of Water

Rainwater Harvesting

Developers who would like to build rainwater collection systems and underground tanks to collect rainwater in their premises for their own non-potable uses, such as washing and toilet flushing, can do so. This applies to premises located within water catchments as well as those outside water catchments.

Used rainwater that is discharged into sewers will be subject to waterborne fees (WBF) as the used water, like all other used water generated from domestic and commercial/industrial sources, requires proper treatment and disposal. A simplified way of collecting WBF based on tank size and expected usage would be used in this instance.

Qualified Persons / Professional Engineers are to consult PUB (Catchment and Waterways Department) for any rainwater collection system that may be proposed under the development and to comply with NEA's guidelines on mosquito prevention in rainwater collection systems.

Greywater Recycling

Greywater is used water from bathtubs, showers, bathroom wash basins, washing machines and laundry tubs. Greywater recycling refers to reuse of greywater after going through some form of treatment in a treatment plant to render the water safe for non-potable use such as toilet flushing. For more information and requirements on greywater recycling, please email us at PUBone@singnet.com.sg.

Seawater Reuse

Industries located on offshore islands or near the sea are encouraged to use seawater for cooling and process use.
