NEWater Scientist Programme
The “NEWater Scientist” is a fun and interactive programme targeted at upper primary students that reinforces the Singapore Water Story, with a focus on the science behind NEWater. The programme encourages self exploration and enables active learning through role playing and use of iPod Touch and Facebook.
Students will be engaged to participate in a competitive team challenge to learn how Singapore manages its water resources, discover the science behind NEWater, and understand the importance of using water wisely.
Highlights of the programme include:
Pre-mission preparation
Students will be given an activity logbook to help them with their learning process at the NEWater Visitor Centre.
Mission @ NEWater Visitor Centre
Technology driven
Students will have a chance to use Apple iPod Touch to find answers to the quizzes and better understand the science of NEWater.
Learning points
Students will get to brush up on:
Leadership and teamwork skills as they have to solve the questions together
English language skills as they have to read the information on the panels carefully
Mathematical skills as they have to practise mental arithmetic
Subject relevance
Students will get to boost their general knowledge in:
Science and various water topics
National education covering the Singapore Water Story, its history and water sustainability.
Social studies and how people can do their part to protect the environment.
Post-mission
Students are encouraged to share their experiences in the NEWater Scientist’s Facebook.
