Maturity Milestones

Matured employees take part in a fun exercise during Transition Training.

Employees may look forward to retiring from the workforce. However, they should be adequately prepared for this new stage of life. To help matured workers ease into retirement or even a second career, PUB has in place the following initiatives:

Transition Training:

Employees above 50 years old can attend a programme which addresses, among other things, managing financial commitments, how to acquire new life skills and new career opportunities.

Educational Upgrading:

To remain more employable, matured staff are given opportunities to achieve NITEC (Intermediate) or GCE ‘O’ Levels before they reach 55 years old.

Co-Sponsorship:

Matured employees can pursue a course of study that will directly help them pursue a career after retirement. PUB will pay 50 per cent of the course fee for part-time studies.

Portable Medical Insurance:

Employees under the voluntary Group Insurance Scheme for Public Officers (GISPO) will enjoy an extension of coverage until age 65, after retiring from service.

Career Opportunities:

Retired employees keen on a second career will be matched with relevant career centres where job advice and training assistance will be provided. Matured employees with specific skills and competencies may also be engaged to provide training and share their expertise with PUB employees.

Fifty-four-year-old Mr Lionel Theodore de Souza, Senior Technical Officer, 3P Network, found the Transition Training of great use. “During training, we were given avenues to maximise our CPF. We were also told to stay physically active with regular exercise, and to keep mentally occupied to prevent our minds from deteriorating,” shares the grandfather of two.

“I’m looking forward to my retirement years and hopefully, the transitional training I’ve received will help me retire gracefully.”
