Towards a Better Payout

PUB Management and PUBEU leaders celebrate a strong and harmonious industrial relationship.

PUB staff have more reason to smile with the signing of the new Collective Agreement. Effective for three years from 1 January 2008, eligible officers in the 2008 scheme enjoyed a one-time salary adjustment of between 1 per cent and 4 per cent to the monthly salaries and enhanced Performance Bonus payouts. The enhanced Performance Bonus payouts further refine PUB’s performance-based remuneration system.

Salary adjustments aside, a new benefit has been implemented and three existing benefits enhanced. Included among these: leave for care of parents who are above 60 years old and hospitalised; incentive for Union membership is increased from $100 to $120 per member per annum; grant on death of employee has been increased from S$300 to S$1,000 (RM300 to RM1,000 for Johor employees).

“We have come a long way from a seniority-based salary framework to a performance-based framework,” noted Mr Ong See Ham, President of PUB Employees’ Union.

Added Mr Lawrence Tan, Director of Human Resources: “For the new Collective Agreement, Union and Management negotiated and agreed to adopt the Civil Service’s salary framework so that we remain competitive and to ensure a more effective and sustainable approach. It is important we continually work towards rewarding and recognising good performance.”
