This course is designed to provide participants with an in-depth knowledge of emerging water technologies and the latest research development in these areas.
This course will be useful to engineers and manager who are involved in the water industry.
3 days
To be confirmed
Module 1: Microbiology Quality of Water
This module shall deal with basic introduction to micro-organisms, types, its characterisations, effects on water quality, treatment technologies and their effectiveness. This module shall also deal in the complex interactions of various species of micro-organisms with other types and its surrounding environment and how this understanding could be potentially exploited to enhance the operating efficiency of biological processes.
Module 2: Wastewater Liquid Treatment Technologies
The topics that would be covered include water use patterns, wastewater source and contaminants, candidates for recycle, discharge limits and regulations, impact of waste discharge quality on NEWater. It would also cover various technologies that are available for treatment and recycling which include conventional methods like phisico-chemical treatments, biological processes, membrane technologies and advanced processes like electrochemical oxidation, AOT and other emerging technologies.
Module 3: Water Treatment Technologies
The training program would cover topics on water quality standards for various applications, water chemistry, conventional treatment technologies such as of coagulation and sand filtration, disinfection by chlorination, by-products of chlorination, UV and ozone as disinfection agents. The program would also cover water reclamation and recycling opportunities in water works, reservoir water quality monitoring, membranes and related technologies for water production and waste treatment, seawater desalination under tropical conditions and water quality surveillance for safe water supply.
Module 4: Water Conservation
The course shall touch upon various aspects of water conservation including water quality issues, different water quality demand for different process applications, water audit and cost of ownership for a specific industry segment. While dealing with technologies, the course shall cover membrane technologies for microelectronics, metal plating, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and related industries.
Module 5: Wastewater Odour Abatement Technologies
The topics that would be covered during this training session include sources of odour in Wastewater Treatment plants, its composition, related health and regulatory systems/standards, measurement of odour. The program shall also include a discussion on general methods of odour abatement, control of odour release, current practices followed at PUB facilities and its performance, new technologies and alternate techniques of odour abatement.
Module 6: Water Reclamation Technologies and Application
The training program would include importance of NEWater as 4th national tap for industrial water supply as well as its strategic importance in its use as indirect potable use. The program would cover membrane technologies like MF, UF and RO used in production of NEWater. The speaker will discuss design aspects of NEWater plants, it’s existing as well as designs such as membrane bioreactors. Disinfection by UV will also be covered in details.
This course is accredited under the Professional Engineering Board (Singapore) CPD Programme - 3 PDUs for one module.
