It's time to be smart about water.

As part of our efforts to transform operations into a Smart utility of the future, we'll be rolling out 300,000 smart water meters across 7 locations island-wide from 2022 onwards. Scroll on to find out how you can be smarter about your water usage.

A thing of the past.

The meter that records and measures our water usage today needs to be manually read once every two months. With 1.5 million meters running island-wide, meter-reading is labour-intensive and not sustainable in the long run.

Meter of the future.

Smart water meters will be installed in residential, industrial and commercial units, allowing water usage information to be collected and analysed digitally, before it's sent back to you in the form of hourly breakdowns the following day.

Check the flow and keep the bills low.

With the ability to monitor your water usage regularly, you'll get to better understand the way you consume water, minimise water wastage and save money, too!

Say goodbye to undetected leaks.

Don't let hidden water leaks rack up your bills. You will be alerted of abnormal water usage in your premises, which could be indications of a possible leak, allowing you to find and fix the leak quickly to prevent further water wastage.

Towards a Smart Nation.
Besides encouraging water conservation and improving our operations through data and technology, we also aim to partner other agencies to improve public services.
A smarter way to serve you.
Time-specific information on your water usage allows us to perform detailed analysis on consumption patterns, optimize operations and provide you feedback on water consumption, potential leaks and more.
A sustainable future for all.
With the ability to monitor water usage more regularly, everyone can take concrete actions to conserve precious water and contribute to a better and more sustainable future for all.
Handy water-saving tips.
You'll receive simple water-saving tips via the portal. By incorporating them into your daily tasks, you'll be a smarter water user in no time!
There's more to love.
The people have spoken: they love it. Early trials conducted with residents of Punggol and Yuhua have proven to be successful, with an average of 5% in water savings.
Connect from anywhere.
Let's face it, we want useful information at our finger tips. So, whether you're at work, at play, or on the move, simply log in to your account from any smart device and you can find out all about your daily water usage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of having a smart water meter?

With the smart water meter, you can view your water consumption data though a customer portal and make better decisions on how to be more water-efficient, while saving on your water bills.

In addition, you will be alerted when there is an unusual high usage or possibility of a leak, and receive information and links to professionals who can help you fix them promptly. These are important services that will help households and businesses reduce water wastage.

How did PUB select the seven locations for Phase 1?

PUB will be rolling out 300,000 smart water meters in seven locations – Tampines (postal sector 52), Hougang (postal sector 53), Jurong West (postal sector 64), Bukit Batok (postal sector 65), Tuas (postal sector 63), and the new estates of Tengah and Tampines North.

The selected zones cover a good mix of residential and industrial premises, including older and new buildings (BTO flats at Tengah and Tampines North New Town). About 90% are households, while the rest are commercial and industrial premises.

Can I opt-in or opt-out of the Smart Water Meter Programme?

This is a mandatory meter replacement programme for older water meters and a new meter installation programme for new estates.

There will not be an opt-in process for smart meters as the intention is to deploy the meters island-wide progressively after reviewing Phase 1.

When will the meter be installed at my premise? Does someone need to be home for the installation? Will there be an interruption in my water supply?

You will be given prior notification before your meter installation. It is not necessary for anyone to be at home, unless the meter is located inside your premises. There will be a brief water supply interruption of approximately 10-15 minutes while the meter is being installed. More details will be provided in the letter.

Do I have to pay anything if my home/business is selected for Phase 1 of the Smart Water Meter Programme?

You do not need to pay for the smart water meter and its installation.

How will I be billed? Will the water usage still be reflected in my SP bill?

There is no change to the billing arrangements.

Will the smart water meters consume electricity and add to my utilities bill?

The meters are battery-operated and do not consume electricity from customer premises. It will not affect your electricity bill.

For customers without online access, how can they access their water usage data?

Customers without smart devices or internet access will still be able to find out their water usage in their monthly bills.
