Marina Barrage - The Place for Community Events

A busy Saturday saw the Marina Barrage being the venue of choice yet again as it hosted an Appreciation Lunch for the Member of Parliament Dr Indranee Rajah, followed by a community visit led by Mediacorp radio station Capital 95.8 FM DJs.

On 20th December 2008, an Appreciation Lunch was held by Dr Indranee Rajah, MP of Tanjong Pagar GRC. Admist the beautiful backdrop of the city skyline, Dr Indranee mixed and mingled with grassroot leaders and members of her constituency. Marina Barrage’s Water Playground area was proud to be selected as the choice location for the Appreciation Lunch.

"Hawker" stalls that livened up the Lunch!

The large numbers of visiting public livened up the community atmosphere as Dr Indranee was kept busy throughout the event taking photographs and interacting with her constituency members. Indeed, the magnificent view and relaxed atmosphere offered by the Marina Barrage made it an excellent location for networking.

Later in the day, radio station Capital 95.8 FM paid a visit to Marina Barrage with about 250 heartlanders, where they were all brought on a guided Mandarin tour of the facility.

Let the skies rain!

Our professional tour guides and PUB staff shared with the visitors on the workings of the Marina Barrage, its functions, and also the importance of caring for our environment and waterways. Though most of them came empty handed to Marina Barrage, they did not leave the same way, as they brought back with them information and knowledge about Singapore’s efforts towards sustainable development. Of course, each participant received a little badge and a bottle of NEWater as a memento of their visit.

“May I have your attention please….”

“That’s right, listen to me….”

The Marina Barrage never fails to amaze visitors, old and new. This was evident by the smiles and excitement on the faces of the Capital 95.8 visitors as they soaked up the beautiful scenic view on the Green Roof. Many expressed their desire to have kite-flying on the Roof.

“The grass cools our building, so we use less air-con!”

The superb weather rounded off a lovely day for all the community participants for both events.

What are you waiting for? Hurry, make your way down to the latest community and family attraction in town: the Marina Barrage!
