PUB awarded international honours for Innovative and Sustainable Approach to Water Management

PUB’s Variable Salinity Plant named global winner in the Applied Research category of the International Water Association Project Innovation Awards 2010 while the Marina Barrage clinched Honour award in the design category. PUB’s PURE magazine also emerged as the winner in the ‘Best Popular presentation of Water Science’ category at the IWA Marketing and Communications Awards 2010..

Fixed Rate Bonds

PUB has launched a new issuance of S$400 million 12-year fixed rate bonds (the "12-year bonds") with a coupon rate of 3.012% per annum payable semi-annually in arrear. The issue date for the 12-year bonds was 12 July 2010.

Largest and most advanced water reclamation plant in Southeast Asia

The Changi Water Reclamation Plant, the heart of the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System, was opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 23 June 2010, marking another milestone in Singapore’s water history.

Singapore’s latest and largest NEWater plant

The opening of Sembcorp NEWater Plant has marked a major step in Singapore’s water sustainability journey with its total capacity of 50 million imperial gallons of NEWater per day.

Together with the existing three NEWater plants, NEWater now meets 30% of Singapore’s total water demand.

Fixed Rate Notes

PUB has launched S$250 million 7-year fixed rate notes (the "7-year notes") with a coupon rate of 2.42% per annum payable semi-annually in arrear. The issue date for the 7-year notes is 15 December 2009.

Top Green Infrastructure Award

Marina Barrage received the Green Mark Platinum Infrastructure Award, the top award at the annual BCA Awards organised by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA).

DTSS Crowned

Deep Tunnel Sewerage System (DTSS) clinched the ‘Water Project of the Year’ at the Global Water Awards 2009 in Zurich, Switzerland. It was selected as the water project with the most significant contribution to water technology and environmental protection.

DTSS recognised

Singapore’s Deep Tunnel Sewerage System (DTSS), a superhighway for used water management bagged its first international award, after being crowned the global winner in the Planning Projects category of the International Water Association (IWA) Project Innovation Awards.

Grand Prize in PR Oscars

PUB won the overall Grand Prize in London in the Golden World Awards for Excellence 2008 organised by International Public Relations Association (IPRA) on 10 June 2010. Its entry beat those from 52 other countries to the overall grand prize. The Golden World Awards is widely recognised as one of the highest accolades in the international public relations community.

NEWater’s second international award

NEWater, Singapore’s high-quality reclaimed water, shone again on the world stage when it clinched the title “Environmental Contribution of the Year” at the Global Water Awards 2008 ceremony.

Kolam Ayer ABC Waterfront

The first completed Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) project at Kolam Ayer was unveiled by Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Dr Yaacob Ibrahim on 7 April 2008. This is also the first ABC Waters project that will be fully managed by the community.

PUB Bond

PUB announced the launch of S$300 million 20-year fixed rate bonds (the “20-year bonds”) with a coupon rate of 3.62% per annum payable semi-annually in arrear.The 20-year bonds were issued in denominations of S$250,000 and offered to investors pursuant to exemptions under Sections 274 and/or 275 of the Securities and Futures Act, Chapter 289 of Singapore

Stockholm Industry Water Prize

PUB won the Stockholm Industry Water Award at the World Water Week in Stockholm. In the citation for the Stockholm Industry Water Award, PUB was said to be “an exemplary model of integrated water management in a framework of good policy and innovative engineering solutions.

Watermark Award

Organised by PUB, the Watermark award recognises the national water agency’s Friends of Water who have gone the extra mile to do their part for water. The inaugural Watermark Award recipients are Alexandra Hospital, City Development Limited, Tiong Seng Contractors, Punggol South Civil Defence Executive Committee, Dunman High School, St Andrew’s Secondary School, Temasek Polytechnic, Mr Albert Phee and Mr Tan Jia Sheng. In addition, Prof Tommy Koh, Dr Geh Min and the Waterways Watch Society – the three winners of the President’s Award for the Environment 2006.

PUB collaborated with Singapore Sports Council and the Seletar Country Club to conduct sailing at Lower Seletar Reservoir. Other recreational activities were:

1.  Canoeing and rowing at Pandan Reservoir, 
2.  Canoeing & sports fishing at designated areas at MacRitchie Reservoir, 
3.  Sailing and sports fishing at designated areas at Lower Seletar Reservoir,
4.  Sports fishing at designated areas at Upper Seletar, Lower Peirce & Kranji Reservoirs  and Jurong Lake.

Mr Khoo Teng Chye was appointed the Chief Executive of the PUB with effect from 8 Dec 2003. He was previously the CEO & Chief Planner at the Urban Redevelopment Authority and Group President of PSA Corporation Ltd.

The Government has accepted the recommendation of the Expert Panel to proceed with the indirect use of NEWater as an additional source of drinking water. PUB would introduce 2mgd of NEWater (less than 1% of total daily water consumption) into the reservoirs in Feb 2003.

August

All 7 wafer fabrication operating in three wafer fabrication parks at Tampines, Pasir Ris and Woodlands signed sales agreements to purchase NEWater to replace their use of PUB potable water. Together they consumed about 11 mgd of water.

Plant expansion of the the two NEWater plants from 5 mgd each to 7 mgd was scheduled in Dec 2002.
