Unaccounted-for-Water |
|
Unaccounted-for-water (UFW) refers to water lost in the network of pipelines between the drinking water treatment plants and consumers as a result of leakage and other reasons. Often, the lack of maintenance causes the network to deteriorate over time.
In Singapore, a comprehensive maintenance regime comes along with all built facilities and infrastructure. We fix and replace pipelines on a regular basis. We also plan our system carefully and implement accurate metering at drinking water plants, before it is distributed, and in customers’ premises. Strict guidelines are set to stop water stealing and encourage the public to report water leakage in public premises. Over the years, we have lowered UFW rate to about 5%. In many countries, their UFW can range between 10 and 30%.
