When flash floods strike, every second counts — and communities that are prepared make all the difference. That’s why PUB, together with the Siglap Community Emergency and Engagement Committee (C2E), Eastwood Ria Residents’ Network and Siglap Community Club, held the Let’s Get Flood-Wise Community Workshop on 8 November 2025. Over 20 community leaders, volunteers and residents came together with a shared mission to explore how the neighbourhood can stay ready and respond effectively when flash floods occur.

To kick off the workshop, Ms Goh Hanyan, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for MSE and MCCY, and Mr Dinesh Vasu Dash, Minister of State for MCCY and MOM, Mayor of South East District, and Adviser to East Coast GRC Grassroots Organisations (Bedok), rallied participants to strengthen their community’s collective resilience.

"We have reduced flood-prone areas to less than 25 hectares today. But 25 hectares is still something, which is why we need to think about how to make sure that our community can respond when things happen." – Senior Parliamentary Secretary Ms Goh Hanyan

"We function as a community and deal with events as a community. Let’s contribute to developing an action plan to strengthen our collective resilience as neighbours." – Adviser Mr Dinesh Vasu Dash

Participants exchanged ideas on how the community can better support vulnerable and affected residents during flash floods, as well as the steps they can take to prepare in advance. Through these conversations, participants identified practical measures that could strengthen the neighbourhood’s resilience, such as identifying vulnerable households and training community self-help groups. Siglap C2E will review these suggestions and further develop them into a community action plan.

During the workshop, participants had the chance to try out new public education resources developed by PUB to raise awareness of flood safety tips.

They also learnt more about the flood protection devices that PUB provides to homeowners and business owners in flood-prone areas, such as inflatable flood bags and portable flood barriers.
