Singapore, 11 June 2026 – In relation to the Tanjong Katong Road South sinkhole incident that occurred on 26 July 2025, the relevant authorities – Building and Construction Authority (BCA), Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Ministry of Manpower (MOM) – have taken enforcement action against the relevant parties as outlined in their joint statement on 11 June 2026.
2 PUB takes a serious view towards the lapses by the Builder, Ohin Construction Co. Pte Ltd (Ohin) for the sewer laying project – Proposed Sewers in Amber Road, Meyer Road and Playfair Road Areas (Balance Works). Due to its breach of contractual obligations, PUB terminated our contract with Ohin for this project. PUB also blacklisted Ohin for a period of 18 months starting from August last year. This entails PUB denying Ohin any new PUB projects for that duration.
3 PUB has received a conditional warning from BCA and takes this matter seriously. The Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment had also earlier convened an internal investigation panel to examine the causes of the incident and make recommendations for PUB to help prevent similar incidents. The panel has recommended that PUB strengthen its processes for identifying and responding to irregularities in projects carried out by contractors, including escalating the irregularities to the relevant authorities. Beyond its statutory requirements, the panel also recommended that PUB reinforce the roles and responsibilities of parties involved in its construction projects, including through its regular industry engagements. PUB has since implemented the recommendations. PUB will continue to work closely with the relevant agencies and stakeholders to ensure full compliance with its statutory obligations, and that the highest safety standards are upheld across its construction projects.
