Today, Singaporeans enjoys modern sanitation and easy access to clean drinking water from their taps any time of the day. With continuous investments, we have built an extensive drainage system to better protect ourselves from the vagaries of the weather. </p><p> <strong>Household Water Consumption and Usage Patterns</strong></p><p>3   PUB’s sustained efforts to drive water conservation awareness and outreach to the community have been encouraging thus far. Average household water consumption has been on a downward trend from 148 litres per person per day in 2016 to 141 litres per person per day in 2019. PUB’s new target is to achieve 130 litres by 2030. </p><p>4   The latest household water consumption study conducted by PUB from 2018 to 2019 with about 400 households showed that shower, flushing, kitchen and laundry remained as the largest water consuming areas in households, constituting 77% of its total water usage. The study also found that water usage for households with domestic helpers is 20% higher when compared to households without domestic helpers. This could be due to higher frequency of washing and cooking activities carried out in households with domestic helpers. </p><p>5   More can be done to raise awareness on the efficient use of water in households. The study has found that a significant number of the households surveyed do not adopt good water practices for their daily activities such as food preparation and toilet washing: </p><ol style="margin-bottom:40px;list-style-type:disc;"><li style="line-height:32.58px;font-size:18px;"> <span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;"> 66% of households wash toilets with running water through hoses instead of a bucket or pail; 41.5% of households use the same method for pet care; </span></li><li style="line-height:32.58px;font-size:18px;"> <span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;">50% of households wash food under running taps; and wash their laundry in the washing machine when it is not fully loaded; and </span></li><li style="line-height:32.58px;font-size:18px;"> <span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;">94% of households wash their dishes under running taps instead of using a basin. </span></li></ol> <p>6  “There is potential for households to use water more efficiently when doing their daily chores, simply by not letting water run needlessly from the tap or the hose. We are also exploring new ways to educate foreign domestic helpers to be more conscious about water use through engagement and training programmes, as they are the ones carrying out household chores,” said Mr Ridzuan Ismail, Director, Water Supply Network, PUB. </p><p> <strong>HOUSEHOLD WATER CONSUMPTION STUDY RESULTS (ANNEX A)</strong><br><img src="http://public.prdweb.pub.gov.sg/sites/assets/PressReleaseAssets/AnnexA-HOUSEHOLD-WATER-CONSUMPTION-STUDY-RESULTS.jpg" class="border-0" alt="" style="margin:5px;" /> </p><p> <strong>Make Every Drop Count</strong></p><p>7   For this year’s water conservation campaign, PUB created a new TV commercial titled “We Have Come a Long Way”, with scenes specially recreated to show the water challenges Singapore faced in the early years of nationhood, juxtaposed against the various modern conveniences we enjoy today. The #GoBlue4SG movement will also return with communities and businesses coming on board to support the water cause.</p><p>8   As part of the movement, 38 retailers and businesses are offering blue deals and promotions in the month of March. #GoBlue4SG will culminate with the signature “City Turns Blue” event on 22 March, to coincide with World Water Day. More than 36 buildings along the Marina Bay city skyline and across the island will light up in blue to symbolise their commitment to water conservation. An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day. This year’s theme is “Nature and Climate Change” explores how water and climate change are inextricably linked.</p><p style="font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;">PUB is a statutory board under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources. It is the national water agency, and manages Singapore’s water supply, water catchment and used water in an integrated way.</p><p style="font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;">PUB has ensured a diversified and sustainable supply of water for Singapore with the Four National Taps (local catchment water, imported water, NEWater, desalinated water).</p><p style="font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;">PUB calls on everyone to play a part in conserving water, in keeping our waterways clean, and in caring for Singapore’s precious water resources. If we all do our little bit, there will be enough water for all our needs – for commerce and industry, for living, for life.</p><p><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">Like us at </span><a href="http://www.facebook.com/PUBsg" style="background-color:#ffffff;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">www.facebook.com/PUBsg</a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;"> </span><br style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;"><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">Follow us on </span><a href="http://www.instagram.com/PUBsingapore" style="background-color:#ffffff;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">www.instagram.com/PUBsingapore</a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;"> and </span><a href="http://www.twitter.com/PUBsingapore" style="background-color:#ffffff;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">www.twitter.com/PUBsingapore</a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;"> </span><br style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;"><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">Subscribe to our channel at </span><a href="http://www.youtube.com/sgPUB" style="background-color:#ffffff;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">www.youtube.com/sgPUB</a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;"> </span><br style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;"><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">For our latest event photos, visit </span><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;"> </span><a href="http://www.pinterest.com/PUBsg" style="background-color:#ffffff;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">www.pinterest.com/PUBsg</a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;"> </span><br style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;"><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">Download our mobile apps: MyWaters fo</span><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">r </span><a href="https://itunes.apple.com/sg/app/mywaters/id533051315?mt=8" style="background-color:#ffffff;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">iOS</a> or<span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;"> </span><a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.codigo.pub.mywaters&hl=en" style="background-color:#ffffff;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">Android</a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;"> </span><br style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;"><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">Visit our website at </span><a href="http://www.pub.gov.sg/" style="background-color:#ffffff;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;line-height:30.24px;">www.pub.gov.sg</a></p>
