The newly created lookout deck and open lawn at the end of the Siglap Canal in East Coast Park is where you can do just that and more. These enhancements were carried out under the Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) Programme1 by PUB, the national water agency, in tandem with the drainage upgrading for a 230m section of the Siglap Canal (East Coast Parkway to the sea).

Designed as a conducive open space for community activities with unobstructed views of the waterfront, the lookout deck and the open lawn on top of the canal have a total standing capacity of 1,250 people. These areas are connected to the re-aligned cycling and footpath of the park for improved and barrier-free accessibility, thus providing a better user experience. The blue spaces are also integrated with the surrounding lush greenery, with creepers lining the canal banks, while seven planting nodes with a myriad of plants such as Ash Plant, Beach Morning Glory and White Lilyturf enliven the lookout deck.

Guest-of-Honour and Adviser to Joo Chiat Grassroots Organisations, Mr Edwin Tong, will officially open the ABC Waters @ Siglap Canal (East Coast Parkway to the sea) this evening. It is PUB’s third ABC Waters project to be opened this year.

This is also the third ABC Waters project for the 3.2km-long Siglap Canal. An upstream section of the Siglap Canal near the Kampong Kembangan Community Club (CC) has been decked over in 2015 to create an activity plaza for various community activities. Together with an upgraded covered linkway, connectivity for residents was improved as they commute to and from the MRT station, housing blocks and the CC. ABC Waters @ Siglap Canal (East Coast Parkway to the sea) is an example of innovative use of space at our canals so that vibrant community focal points can be created for communities to gather and bond by the waters, while appreciating the value that water can bring to our environment and our lives," said PUB's Chief Sustainability Officer, Mr Tan Nguan Sen.

Grassroots Adviser to Joo Chiat Grassroots Organisations, Mr Edwin Tong, Chief Executive of PUB, Mr Ng Joo Hee and Chairman of Joo Chiat CCC, Mr Tan Yew Beng, BBM at the official opening of ABC Waters @ Siglap Canal (East Coast Parkway to the sea)

Participants doing Yoga by the sea

Creating a rain garden

1活跃,优美,清洁 – 全民共享水源计划, 简称ABC水源计划

PUB is a statutory board under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources. It is the national water agency, and manages Singapore’s water supply, water catchment and used water in an integrated way.

PUB has ensured a diversified and sustainable supply of water for Singapore with the Four National Taps (local catchment water, imported water, NEWater, desalinated water).

PUB calls on everyone to play a part in conserving water, in keeping our waterways clean, and in caring for Singapore’s precious water resources. If we all do our little bit, there will be enough water for all our needs – for commerce and industry, for living, for life.

The ABC Waters Programme was launched by PUB in 2006 to transform Singapore’s water bodies beyond their utilitarian purpose into beautiful and clean streams, rivers and lakes, creating a vibrant City of Gardens and Water. Over 100 potential locations have been identified for implementation by 2030. To date, 35 ABC Waters projects completed by PUB have been opened to the public.

Like us at
Follow us on and
Subscribe to our channel at
For our latest event photos, visit or
Download our mobile apps: MyWaters for iOS, Android or Windows Phone
Visit our website at
