Make Every Drop Count Every Drop Count24/2/2019 4:00:00 PMPUB to launch campaign to build more pervasive water-saving culture and make water conservation a way of life25/2/2019 4:30:00 AMIssue DatePress ReleaseAbout World Water DayAbout PUB, Singapore’s National Water AgencyFind out more about us<p> <strong>Singapore, 22 February 2019</strong> – PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, is launching a refreshed campaign to drive home the importance of water conservation, and instil stronger personal responsibility among individuals to save water. There will be sustained outreach to help people better appreciate the amount of efforts that go into making every drop of water and how it is integral to our lives.</p><p> <img src="" class="border-0" alt="" style="margin:5px;" /> <br> </p><p>2 The need to build a more pervasive water-saving culture in Singapore is supported by findings from a recent qualitative study by PUB and REACH to better understand public sentiments towards Singapore’s water supply and sustainability. While the participants were generally aware that water is a scarce resource, the sense of importance attached to water sustainability appeared to be less salient, especially among younger Singaporeans. For this group, there was a perception that water scarcity was a distant concept given that water is readily available, while the government’s ability to diversify water sources over the decades with NEWater and desalination had given them the assurance that water supply is secured. Even for those who expressed willingness to conserve water, it was noted that quite a few lacked the means to manage water consumption effectively.</p><p>3 <strong>“<em>Singapore, tiny but with lots of people, is a very water-stressed place. The next drop of water, even when we can find it, will always cost more to process and to distribute. Water is scarce, and it has to go through a lot before it is fit for human use. None of it should go to waste. So, in order that everyone can have enough, all of us will have to make every single drop count</em>,” said Ng Joo Hee, Chief Execu</strong><strong>tive, PUB.</strong></p><p> <strong>‘Make Every Drop Count’</strong></p><p>4 The campaign will kick-start with the opening of Singapore World Water Day 2019 at Marina Barrage on Saturday, 2 March. President Halimah Yacob will join more than 2,000 representatives from schools, corporates and grassroots organisations in celebrating and saving water.</p><p>5 The theme ‘<strong>Make Every Drop Count</strong>’ takes on a refreshed meaning this year. Emphasis is placed on the <strong style="text-decoration:underline;">making </strong>of water so that we can appreciate how valuable water is. In Singapore, raw water undergoes a stringent, robust and complex treatment process to emerge from our taps as clean and wholesome, safe for direct drinking. This is possible because of Government’s long-term planning and continued investment in water resources and infrastructure to ensure we are able to meet current and future water needs.</p><p> <img src="" class="border-0" alt="" style="margin:5px;width:643px;height:900px;" /> <br> </p><p>6 Every drop of water does not come easy and must be used wisely. The sustainability of our water resources can only be assured if a nation of like-minded, water-conscious Singaporeans is committed to make saving water a way of life. Saving water by reducing excessive consumption is also a way of contributing to our vision of becoming a zero-waste nation.</p><p>7 Key highlights of the campaign initiatives are:</p><p> <strong>Singapore World Water Day 2019</strong> </p><p> The annual celebration opens on 2 March, as a platform to rally the community to celebrate and conserve water, and organise events about water. An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day.</p><p>PUB is a statutory board under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources. It is the national water agency, and manages Singapore’s water supply, water catchment and used water in an integrated way.</p><p>PUB has ensured a diversified and sustainable supply of water for Singapore with the Four National Taps (local catchment water, imported water, NEWater, desalinated water).</p><p>PUB calls on everyone to play a part in conserving water, in keeping our waterways clean, and in caring for Singapore’s precious water resources. If we all do our little bit, there will be enough water for all our needs – for commerce and industry, for living, for life.</p><p><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;">Like us at </span><a href="" style="color:#2196f3;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;background-color:#ffffff;"></a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;"> </span><br style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;"><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;">Follow us on </span><a href="" style="color:#2196f3;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;background-color:#ffffff;"></a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;"> and </span><a href="" style="color:#2196f3;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;background-color:#ffffff;"></a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;"> </span><br style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;"><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;">Subscribe to our channel at </span><a href="" style="color:#2196f3;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;background-color:#ffffff;"></a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;"> </span><br style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;"><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;">For our latest event photos, visit </span><a href="" style="color:#2196f3;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;background-color:#ffffff;"></a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;"> or </span><a href="" style="color:#2196f3;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;background-color:#ffffff;"></a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;"> </span><br style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;"><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;">Download our mobile apps: MyWaters fo</span><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;">r </span><a href="" style="color:#2196f3;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;background-color:#ffffff;">iOS</a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;">, </span><a href="" style="color:#2196f3;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;background-color:#ffffff;">Android</a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;"> or </span><a href="" style="color:#2196f3;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;background-color:#ffffff;">Windows Phone</a><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;"> </span><br style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;"><span style="font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;">Visit our website at </span><a href="" style="color:#2196f3;font-family:roboto-regular-webfont;font-size:18px;line-height:30.24px;background-color:#ffffff;"></a></p>28/2/2019 8:31:48 AM
