Singapore Watermark Awards (SWMA)
The SWMA is the nation’s highest accolade, honouring organisations for their exemplary leadership and outstanding accomplishments in promoting water sustainability in Singapore.
Since the SWMA’s inception in 2007, 68 recipients have been conferred the award, setting new benchmarks for their industries and sectors. See past winners here and read about the 2024 winners' water stories here.
Eligibility
Nominations for the SWMA are open to all non-domestic water users including private companies, businesses, educational institutions, town councils, and government premises.
Nominated organisations must be registered in Singapore. Organisations may submit either self-nominations or external nominations. For the SWMA, only one submission is allowed per organisation. Where multiple submissions are detected, only one will be considered at PUB’s discretion.
Evaluation Criteria
Nominations will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
• Performance: Demonstrated efforts and quantifiable results in the efficient use of water.
• Advocacy/Influence: Displayed positive changes to water conservation through implemented policies, programmes, or outreach activities.
• Innovativeness: Incorporated innovative services, programmes, processes or new technologies to reduce water use or promote water recycling.
• Sustainability reporting: Organisations that have published action plans to achieve their water efficiency goals will be allocated bonus points.
Selection Process
All nominations and supporting documents will be verified upon submission. Organisations may be contacted by the SWMA secretariat for clarification. Nominations will be evaluated by a Selection Committee consisting of prominent thought leaders, distinguished academics, and water experts from the public and private sectors.
Notification of Results
Award recipients will be notified by August 2026. Due to the anticipated high volume of nominations, only successful nominees will be contacted.
The Water Efficiency Awards (WEA) and Water Efficiency Awards (Projects) (WEAP) recognise the top achievers in water-efficient operations and acknowledge improvements in rolling out water-efficient practices.
On 26 Mar 2024, 35 organisations received the Water Efficiency Awards while 8 organisations received the Water Efficiency Awards (Projects) (WEAP). Read about the 2024 winners' water stories here.
Water Efficiency Awards (WEA)
Introduced in 2017, the WEA is presented to the top water-efficiency performers in their respective sectors. The best performers in each sector are premises with the lowest Water Efficiency Index (WEI), or industrial plants with the highest recycling rates.
Eligibility
This sector-specific award is not open for nominations; winners are selected based on data submitted through Water Efficiency Management Practices (WEMP).
Evaluation Criteria
The WEI serves as a performance indicator for water efficiency, and it refers to the amount of water used per business activity indicator. Business activity indicator is a measure of business activity that takes into account the business operations of the water user.
WEI = Total amount of water consumed/business activity indicator.
To be recognised by the WEA as a water-efficient site, these premises’ WEI or recycling rates must be within the top tenth percentile of their sectors. Qualifying award winners must also be certified under the Water Efficient Building Certification.
Water Efficiency Awards (Projects) (WEAP)
The Projects category under the WEA was introduced in 2024 to recognise innovative projects that demonstrate remarkable improvements in water efficiency and raise industry benchmarks.
Eligibility
Nominations for the WEAP are open to all non-domestic water users including private companies, businesses, educational institutions, town councils, and government premises.
Nominated organisations must be registered in Singapore. Organisations may submit either self-nominations or external nominations. While the WEAP allows one nomination per project, organisations may submit multiple nominations if they have multiple projects.
A valid nominee for the WEAP should be a project commissioned between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2024, which has achieved measurable water efficiency improvements with successful operation, and in accordance with all regulatory requirements in Singapore.
Evaluation Criteria
Nominations will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
• Performance: Demonstrated efforts and quantifiable results in reducing water demand from PUB, increasing recycled water within plants/premises, and achieving cost reductions with demonstrable return on investment.
• Innovativeness: Demonstrated innovative use of technology and process improvements to reduce water use or promote recycling.
• Project leadership: Demonstrated collaborative efforts to overcome unexpected obstacles and challenges.
• Success of the project: Demonstrated successful operation of the project in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
Notification of Results
Award recipients will be notified by August 2026. Due to the anticipated high volume of nominations, only successful nominees will be contacted.
